"A genuine team spirit"
What is the role of the Control department?
The Control department is part of the Finance department. We have two main tasks. The first is Management Control, which involves monitoring management expenses, reporting to the parent companies and preparing budgets. The second is P&LControl, which mainly consists in reconciling Front-Office P&L with accounting P&L. Each of these tasks is managed by a member of my team, one of whom holds a French MBA. We work mainly with the middle and back offices on an everyday basis. We also work with the Sales Desk, mostly to monitor activity. Every month, we report Gaselys' P&L to Senior Management and the parent companies.
Does working for a company like Gaselys make your job any different?
What is different is that our business is very fast moving and requires quick response and adaptation, both internally and to comply with regulations. Gaselys is continually changing and we must always be ready!
What is your background?
I graduated from the Nantes business school, now known as Audencia. My first job was with Salustro-Reydel (bought back by KPMG in 2005), an auditing firm, which I left in late 2004, to work for Ernst and Young as a consultant to asset management companies. I joined Gaselys in December 2005.
What did you think about your new job?
I first heard about the company when it was founded and was immediately interested in it. I thought the union of a bank with an energy group was quite interesting, thus combining a financial institution with an owner of industrial assets. This was something quite new! Initially hired to audit P&L, I was put in charge of the Control department when it was reorganized.
Do you find anything difference about Gaselys compared with the other companies you have worked for?
There is a genuine team spirit that is reinforced by close relationships. The fact that the various departments work so closely together definitely gives us an advantage, since it enables important information to be passed on very easily and rapidly.
What you like most about your job?
The fact that it cuts across several disciplines and that we deal directly with all support functions. We are also in contact with our parent companies. They recognize the quality of our work and this is motivating.
What you like most about Gaselys?
First of all, the chance to develop my career within the same company. Any opportunity you're willing to seize is available. Another thing I appreciate is the youth of this company and its employees. You feel a strong determination to build something solid, to move ahead and to grow. People are very open and easy to approach, even the managers. Relationships are very strong. This is Gaselys' main strength.
